Winning Wednesday

I bought some lovely tomatoes at the farmer's market. Unfortunately I bought too many to eat and not enough to really can. I decided to send them through the food processor and can them in half-pints for use in tomato gravy later.

The yellow ones are Lemon Boy, low acid and I couldn't tell you what the red ones are, but they were huge. I ate a Lemon Boy and it was yummy. I really couldn't tell the difference in the acid content, but then it doesn't normally bother me.

I dropped by the thrift store and scored 2 dozen quart canning jars for $3.60 a dozen. You can't beat that price with a stick.

This is the second time in a week I have heard tomato gravy. Pray tell, what is tomato gravy? Recipe?

Those tomatoes look so good, very colorful.

Danetta, just make regular gravy and dump some tomatoes in it. It turns pink, but the biscuits and sausage or bacon don't care. It's really good.

Try it with a homemade hamburger sometime.

...Tomatoes are so pretty aren't they? We had our first ones off the vine the other day with supper and need I say, YUM! :oP

...And yes, that is a good price on those canning jars. I go to farm auctions and pick 'em up for next to nothing. I have shelves loaded with them out in the barn and some are even the old blues with bubbles in the glass... My motto is, "one can never have to many canning jars"...lol

...Blessings... :o)

I'll have to try tomato gravy. I'm sure it'll get a "look" from the Hub. I just always thought it was a regional term for sauce - never occurred to me to put tomatoes in gravy.

Then again, I wold never have come up with chocolate gravy either.... nor do I have the nerve to try it.

Chocolate gravy is quite good. It doesn't take much, but it is yummy.

I grew up on tomato gravy and just love the stuff.

I'll have to try that some time.

My kids love chocolate gravy. They used to have it at preschool.
